A new multipurpose space, referred to as the “pool pavilion”, opened to Los Altos High School on Tuesday, September 24. This space — located in the 500 west wing near the pool — can be divided into two classrooms via an accordion door and includes a new athletic director’s office.
When the new auxiliary gym was created, the old athletic director’s office was demolished along with the former small gym. The project to make the new office started three years ago, replacing an old storage building. The pool pavilion has roll up doors that open to the pool deck, earning its nickname.
“The roll up doors and high ceilings really give the building a feel that flows into an extension of the pool deck and the pool itself,” Project Manager Gregg Bilse said.
The pool pavilion can be used for PE, athletics, meetings, and extra space for testing. There are also stationary bikes for athlete conditioning.
“We intend for the space to be flexible and available to anyone who has a need,” Principal Tracey Runeare said.
Athletic Director Michelle Noeth is grateful that her new office is closer to athletic facilities.
“After moving 5 times, it will be nice to have a stationary office that athletes, coaches, and parents can find,” Noeth said.
Due to its fitness purposes, this space is particularly flexible to the PE Department. According to PE department coordinator Kiernan Raffo, a potential freshman unit central to the pool pavilion will make use of its bikes and dumbbells.
“I am excited to have yet another space we can use and offer a new activity to our students,” Raffo said. “We want to provide as many examples and experiences as possible, so students understand there are several different ways to stay fit.”
