On Tuesday, March 31, badminton had a home meet against Monta Vista. They lost with a score of 18-12, with nine of their 12 points coming from both boys and girls singles players.
Both the varsity one singles players won their matches, with varsity one boys singles player Louis Hinnant winning with scores of 21-14 and 21-8 in his sets. Freshman Alyssa Sun, the number one girls singles player, won her match with scores of 21-19 and 21-16. They were joined by two other winning singles players: senior Albert Li, a varsity boys two player who won with scores of 21-13 and 21-17, and varsity girls three player senior Savannah Buchner, who won with scores of 21-17 and 21-15.
Two doubles teams also won. The girls doubles two team, composed of juniors Helena Chi and Stephanie Lee, won with a final score of 21-17, 18-21 and 21-9 in their three sets. The boys doubles three team, consisting of seniors Steven Cui and Kevin Li, won 21-19 and 21-15.
“Overall, we have seen improvement of both JV and varsity scores from two years ago,” junior team co-captain Selynna Sun said. “Though many of the schools in the upper league are at a significantly higher level overall compared to LAHS, many of our stronger players were able to help us obtain more points to even out the score.”
Badminton’s next meet is tomorrow, April 2, at Cupertino.
