Girls Volleyball Secures Decisive Win over Los Gatos

On Tuesday, October 7, the varsity girls volleyball team played hard and valiantly in a home game against Los Gatos High School. The Eagles secured a decisive 3-1 win in the four-game match.

“Overall, we played well as a team,” senior team captain Carmen Annevelink said.

In their first game, the Eagles won 25-22, falling behind at the beginning of the game, but quickly regaining their footing. They started off the match with intensity and spirit, gratifying them in a triumph. Senior Kristen Liu made an exceptional block that was crucial to the team’s success.

However, Los Altos faltered in the second game, losing 25-19, even with well-executed and consistent serves from Carmen.

Major success gave them a rebound in the third game. Los Altos quickly took control of the game and soon lead with a score of 13-4. Both teams called a timeout, however, the Eagles polished off the Wildcats with a 25-14 win.

The fourth game teetered between both teams, but with a set by junior Sarah Tritschler and a kill from Carmen, the match ended with a 26-24 score, resulting in a Los Altos victory.

“We were able to make plays even when Los Gatos was taking advantage of some of our weaknesses,” Carmen said. “It wasn’t our best match, but it definitely helps us figure out how to be and play better.  It’s always good to know how to improve.”

In the past, Los Gatos has not been a team that Los Altos particularly struggled against. In last years’ CCS tournament, the varsity girls won against Los Gatos in their first match.

The girls have their next match away against Mountain View on Thursday, October 9.
