Girls Tennis Picks Up Sound Victory Over Gunn

Today, September 30, varsity girls tennis came away from its match against Gunn with its second win of the season. The team finished with a record of 5-2, winning three of its singles matches and two of its doubles matches.

“I guess you could say its a confidence booster in that it was the biggest win of the season so far,” junior Ellen Dai said. “What really stood out this time was that our doubles really did well, as opposed to only the singles who have a lot more experience.”

Historically, Los Altos has been able to edge out Gunn in their matches, a trend that, while not initially apparent in certain games, continued to hold true today.

“I didn’t think our opponents were more skilled than us,” Ellen said. “It was just that we were being extremely tentative at first which really screws you up. After a while, we settled down and started improving our play, and it was better from there.”

With two league losses so far, a strong early-season record could lead to a solid standing for league finals and CCS, especially considering the fact that the team plays each school in the league twice.

“I have no idea how good Lynbrook is, but Monta Vista will definitely be a tough match for us to win,” junior Carina Burdick said. “We are 2-3 in the league, and in order to make it to CCS, we will most likely need a winning record.”

The team has a bye this week and plays in the Battle of the Bay tournament at Menlo on Friday and LAHS on Saturday.
