Boys and Girls Water Polo Victorious Against Homestead

Today, October 14, both boys and girls varsity water polo played against Homestead for their eighth games of the season. The two teams each secured a victory—the boys finished with a score of 9-8, and the girls 9-4.

The boys team started their game off strong, dominating the first quarter with a score of 4-1.

However, the Mustangs quickly stepped up their game and looked to make a comeback, scoring one more goal than the Eagles in the second quarter for a halftime score of 5-3.

“At halftime we were completely off our game,” co-captain senior Bryan Kim said. “The first quarter we came out strong, but then I feel like we became a little complacent. Still, I never doubted that we would win.”

Homestead continued to close the score gap, eventually tying the game up at 8-8 in the last quarter, with two and a half minutes left on the clock.

“The tied score really caught us off guard,” Bryan said. “In our previous game against Homestead we were able to defeat them convincingly, but this time it was really close.”

Nevertheless, the boys pulled through, putting a ninth goal in the goal, carrying them above the Mustangs for a win.

Later in the evening, the girls continued Los Altos’ success as the team put in a solid performance the whole game, only allowing Homestead two goals in the first three quarters.

“It was a solid win for our girls team,” co-captain junior Christina Pao said. “Our strong defense really shut them out. We have always had defense as a strong suit, so we were definitely able to get off more shots and more steals from our strong defense.”

This was also the first game in which the team used their new offensive strategy of playing off the quickness of the players’ drives in setting up good post-ups.

“This was one of our top three highest scoring games for sure in our league games, so we are super excited that this offense is working,” Christina said. “Even people in the stands were saying that we looked like an entirely new team. We are really feeling that this offense will take us all the way. We just need to keep up this same intensity for the next four league games for our spot for CCS. I really think that this offense will make the difference.”
