'Los Altos Live!' raises funds for Camp Everytown

The Associated Student Body (ASB) of the school hosted Los Altos Live!, a talent show, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 10.

The show included acts ranging from a standup comedian to a Carnegie Hall-quality violinist. Los Altos Live! benefits the school’s Camp Everytown program.

Mistress of Ceremonies Assistant Principal Cristy Dawson called the event “outstanding” and was “ecstatic” that the event, scheduled on the first day of spring break, drew a full house.

“[I am] so happy,” Dawson said. “It’s such good all around family fun.”

Camp Everytown is a camping retreat held once or twice a year in order to unite the student body. ASB President senior Katherine Portelli attributes its success to students’ willingness to get involved.

“Everybody [who goes to Camp Everytown] wants to learn about other cultures and other peoples’ lives,” Katherine said. “They want to learn how to interact better with the people that are going there. I think it’s really valuable especially because we have such a diverse campus.”

According to Dawson, funding Camp Everytown through Los Altos Live! will be beneficial to the whole student body.

“We wanted to do something that every student at this school could be a part of, if they chose to,” Dawson said.

The event was cosponsored by the Los Altos Cultural Association and the Los Altos Town Crier, with the Borel Private Bank and Trust as a special sponsor. The show was produced and directed by Abby Althoff and Linda Thompson.

ASB members acted as stagehands during the show and organized a baked goods sale to raise additional funds.

“I think it’s cool that we get to showcase all the talent in Los Altos,” Katherine said. “Even though the cause is important, the show’s good too.”

Last year proceeds from Los Altos Live! amounted to $5,000, according to Dawson.
