Wrestling Competes at League Finals

The wrestling team competed at the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League finals competition last weekend. The team competed unfazed by the rough results of previous matches, but finished 10th out of 12 teams.

A few members of the young Eagles squad stood out. Among the entire team, only two wrestlers–sophomores Carter Lee and Sean Lanoza–garnered winning records of 3-2 and 4-1, respectively. As a result of his sixth-place finish, Carter has been designated as a CCS alternate. Sean, who tied for third, will wrestle an additional match at a later date to determine his true placement, due to a CIF rule that forbids a wrestler from competing in more than five matches in a single day. He will advance to CCS regardless of the outcome of the match.

Though the team’s results were disappointing, the team views the tournament as a formative experience.

“It was our first time at leagues,” freshman Javier Contreras said, after finishing with a record of 1-2. “Now we know what to expect next year.”
