Lacrosse
After a season of domination, the varsity lacrosse team ended its season today in a match-up against lacrosse powerhouse Menlo, falling 10-4. In this season, the team’s third on campus, the Eagles took the El Camino league title and beat out other dominant teams such as Saratoga (with a score of 10-5) and Woodside (with a score of 1-0). However, this week’s match-ups against De Anza league teams MVHS and Menlo proved too much for the team to handle, and marked two of the team’s three losses.
Baseball
The baseball team is gearing up for SCVAL championships this week, preparing itself for tough match-ups against Paly on Tuesday, May 8 and Thursday, May 10. After a season of success, where the Eagles have sustained an 11-3 in-league record, the team has its sights on a CCS championship. The Eagles picked up two wins against Saratoga last week, taking the series 2-1. With a strong season record, the Eagles are heading into postseason play with the opportunity to take the SCVAL title.
Track
LAHS hosted its final De Anza league meet last Thursday, May 3, bringing in six other schools from the area to compete. Junior Danny Yeager leaped his way to two first place spots in high jump and 300 hurdles, as well as taking second in 110 hurdles. Senior Catherine Li also grabbed a first place in the 100 yard dash. Overall, the girl’s team took fourth place in the meet while the boy’s team settled for second behind Paly. The competition was harsh as Paly’s 200 runner, Junior EJ Floreal, managed to set the fastest 200 statewide for this year at the meet. All of the Eagles varsity relay teams and other individuals who qualified will participate in the SCVAL CCS Qualifier meet on Friday, May 11 at Santa Clara High School.
Swimming
The varsity boys and girls swimming teams all won the El Camino League Championship last Friday, May 4. The league championships took place at MVHS, and many swimmers from both varsity teams will be moving on to CCS this Friday at the Santa Clara International Swim Center. For the boys team, four swimmers made individual events: freshman Sean Nguyen (100 free and 100 back), junior Ian McColl (50 free and 100 free), junior Oliver Kask (500 free) and senior Adam Warmoth (200 free). Senior Matthew Orton, freshman Eddie Barnes, and juniors Sam Gavenman and Corey Moran will represent the team on relays.
Badminton
The badminton team currently has a 8-2 record. After suffering from a loss to MVHS, the team narrowly missed its chance at grabbing the league title. However, despite this, with the addition of the team’s recent freshmen success at CCS is hopeful.
Gymnastics
The JV gymnastics team had their finals and placed second last Thursday, May 3. This week on Wednesday, May 9, the varsity gymnastics team will be having their finals. The varsity team is looking strong despite the fact that some of the gymnasts suffer from injuries. Co-captains senior Amy Shantz and sophomore Emma Orner hope to lead the varsity team to success.
Tennis
Spencer Simonides and Anthony Bello played Gunn for the 2nd round of CCS in boy’s varsity tennis last Friday, May 4. They played in a round robin style, where the top three singles and top 3 doubles from each team played. LAHS beat Gunn but lost to Menlo High School in the CCS quarterfinals today, May 7. However, Spencer and Anthony will move on as an individual doubles pair against the Ablog/McCafferty pair from Leland High School on Monday, May 14 at in the first round of Imperial Courts in Aptos.
Softball
The softball is currently ranked first in the El Camino League after winning 5-2 against Gunn last Friday, May 4. Their next game will be on Tuesday, May 8 against Milpitas High School.
