The tennis team lost its first match of the season 4-3 against Monta Vista this week, which dropped them from a perfect 7-0 record to 7-1. They are currently tied with Monta Vista with a record of 8-1 for first in their division, after winning against Lynbrook 4-3. The team looks to continue successfully throughout the season as it hopes to win leagues.

Track and Field

The track team dropped its third dual meet of the year against Palo Alto High School, losing in all four divisions. However, the varsity boys were able to come within three points of the track powerhouse, with a final score of 65-62. The meet came down to the final event, the 4×400 meter relay, which the team lost by just under three seconds. Senior Danny Yeager won three events (110m hurdles, 300m hurdles and high jump) and contributed 18 points for the Eagles. Senior Arthur Bogdanovich provided one of the meet’s highlights, winning the 400 meter by 0.06 seconds. The team also competed in the Firebird Relays, as well as the Stanford Invitational Meet this weekend.

Gymnastics

The gymnastics team had its first meet of the season on March 28 against Christopher High School, Half Moon Bay High School, Gilroy High School and Mountain View High School. Varsity claimed first place titles, with captain senior Kelly Yamaguma placing third and senior Erin Woolley placing fourth overall. With a larger than normal team and the addition of three talented freshmen, all ex-gymnasts, the outlook for CCS is bright.

Volleyball

Just a month into their first season, the boys volleyball team is steadily making progress. With a league standing of 4-2, the Eagles have shown great improvement in their recent games. Los Altos defeated Santa Clara High School 3-2 in its second home game of the season on March 25. The team fell 2-3 to Cupertino in its second game of the week on March 27, but defeated Eastside Prep in a thrilling, two and a half hour, five set match just two days after. With these wins under its belt, the team hopes to continue challenging the best teams in the league and make it to CCS playoffs.

Softball

The Lady Eagles played a total of six games this week, participating in both the Wilcox Tournament and the Charlie Miguel Tournament. They fell to Homestead 2-7 in their first game of the week on Tuesday, March 26.  The team played San Benito High School, the Division I CCS champions for the past five years, on Wednesday in a close game that resulted in a 0-1 loss. Los Altos lost to Wilcox 1-10 the following day. Despite these losses, Los Altos was able to rebound with three consecutive wins, defeating Palo Alto on March 29 (3-2), and both Evergreen High School and Milpitas High School 7-4 and 11-4, respectively, on March 30.

Lacrosse

The lacrosse team played three non-league games this week, winning 8-2 against Latino College Preparatory, and falling 6-11 to Archbishop Mitty and 7-13 to Mountain View. The Eagles are currently laying the foundations for next year’s team by focusing on the development of the younger players on the team. With a league record of 3-1, the team is looking to continue its strong performance by making it to league playoffs and becoming the league champions.

Golf

The golf team has an overall record of three wins, three losses and one tie. It placed fourth out of seven teams in the San Juan Oaks Tournament on Monday, March 25. Junior Andrew Bray performed well, finishing the tournament with only 80 strokes. The team also had a practice match on Tuesday, March 26, against Monta Vista, which they lost. The team hopes to raise its record by winning its two upcoming matches this week against Cupertino High School and Fremont High School.

Swimming and Diving
Both boys and girls swimming teams were defeated by Los Gatos in last Friday’s meet, the last home meet of the season, with both divisions losing by over 40 points. The team has struggled in the early meets this season, largely because they have moved up a league, which has left the team adjusting to the fierce competition. The diving team also struggled with tough judges and competition against Los Gatos in their competition on Thursday.

Badminton

The badminton team started off the week by competing in the Irvington High School Tournament on March 23, a competition that acquainted the team with a wider rider range of badminton styles and play. It faced off against Monta Vista High School and Cupertino, falling to both badminton powerhouses. Los Altos’ joining the upper De Anza Division has been a large factor in its meets this season. The Eagles finished off the week by competing in the Newark Tournament over the weekend. With senior doubles pair Brian Chen and Eric Wu performing outstandingly and sophomore Louis Hinnant managing to advance to the quarterfinals after finishing off tough opponents, the team’s morale is starting to look much better.

Baseball

The baseball team suffered three losses this week, bringing their league standing to 3-5 and their overall ranking to 7-9. The Eagles played Palo Alto High School twice, first on Monday, March 27 (1-10), and a second time on Friday, March 29 (2-8). Their away game against Westmont High School resulted in a 0-4 loss. The team has been focused on working on pitching strikes and fastballs, as well as putting pressure on opposing teams and forcing errors. With the development of these skills, the team hopes to take one of the league’s top two spots and qualify for CCS playoffs.
