On Monday, September 25, the Los Altos High School varsity girls volleyball team lost 3–2 against the Mountain View High School Spartans in an intense, energy-filled league game.
In the first set, the Eagles started off strong, winning 31-29. However, the Spartans won both the second and third sets, pulling ahead of the Eagles with a score of 2–1.
In the fourth set, the Eagles began to capitalize on the Spartans’ defense, playing aggressively and fighting to tie the game 2–2.
“Going against Mountain View, we were definitely very set on playing our hardest,” defensive specialist senior Isabel Banks said. “Compared to our other games, this has been one of the most aggressive matches we have played, and we went onto the court fighting from beginning to end.”
However, during the fifth and final set, the Spartans won 15–12, ultimately emerging victorious.
Although the Eagles faced a close loss, they will continue to persevere through maintaining a strong team spirit.
“What makes our team so strong is how we’re always fighting and always trying our hardest on the court,” Isabel said “No matter if we’re losing or winning, we continue to fight against our rivals and play well.”
After the loss, the Eagles hope to continue their strong level of play and will work to improve their flaws to prepare for upcoming games.
“Compared to how our team was playing at the beginning of the season, we’re playing significantly better,” middle blocker sophomore Ella McFarlane said. “We had great energy and were able to persist through tough servers or strong hitters. Earlier this season we were super inconsistent and it felt like we didn’t have great energy, but I’m glad that we’ve come such a long way.”
The Eagles will play in the Los Altos Invitational tournament on Saturday, October 7, and will face the Cupertino High School Pioneers on Tuesday, October 10 in an away league game.
