Varsity Badminton Competes in Newark Tournament

Select members of the badminton team headed to Newark to compete in the annual Newark Badminton Tournament yesterday, March 30.

The senior doubles pair Brian Chen and Eric Wu performed outstandingly, leading the team by surprisingly splitting games against their top seeded doubles opponents. In singles, sophomore Louis Hinnant managed to advance to the quarterfinals after finishing off tough opponents.

Since the badminton team recently moved up a division, the team has accrued a series of losses in the face of a more competitive environment. Going into the Newark tournament, many members on the team were afraid that its recent series of losses would have an effect on the team’s motivation and spirit. The team’s performance and technical capabilities at the tournament, however, have put these worries to rest.

“We played well and didn’t let our recent losses get to us, but we definitely have room for lots of improvement,” sophomore Louis Hinnant said. “We’re hoping to learn from our mistakes and our experiences and place at both Leagues and CCS.”

The team will be playing Saratoga High at home this Tuesday, April 2.
