There’s a Very Scrumptious Summertime Ahead of Us

That time has finally arrived—the time of endless days of sunshine, beaches and long naps by the pool. Nothing can possibly go wrong until an unexpected dilemma arrives. It’s snack time, and that means it’s time to choose the best summertime treat.

The battle between these delectable snacks has been an ongoing one ever since anyone can remember. They both represent vital parts of everyone’s childhood and the decision will not be an easy one by any means. But once the dust settles down, the best treats are as follows (in order of preference):

The first contender is the simplicity that is frozen fruit juice, commonly called the popsicle. This is the very epitome of youth; the juices of cherry, grape, orange and lemon are all just too good to resist. Fingers suddenly become sticky, and the cheesy but wonderful joke on the stick always is worth its while.

Popsicles provide comfort and memories of childhood. The picture is clear, riding your bike with a popsicle in hand, while the other is glued to the handle so you won’t fall off. (Believe it—speaking from experience, it happens.)

“Popsicles give me a brain freeze,” junior Derek Koehler said. “Well, except for fudgesicles.”

But then again, ice cream is just as important. It is what many turn to in times of need if something to beat the heat.

And what better way to spend a summer day than with a bowl (or more) or ice cream, available in all flavors? Whether in a plain cup or a sugar-coated cone, ice cream has a place in everyone’s heart.

“You can get things mixed in,” junior Robert Emerich said. “Like M&M’s or cookie dough or anything.”

If these frozen treats are just too much, there are always the more dignified treats, such as a tall glass of lemonade.

Fresh-squeezed lemonade is a perfect balance of sweet and sour that adds up to some great relief from the scorching sun.

For something even more natural, watermelon is the quintessential summertime fruit. Juicy, sweet and refreshing, watermelon is a healthy way to pass the lazy summer days.

With so many options, you have no excuse to complain about the heat once school gets out. The question is not so much which treat is the best, but which one to eat first.
