The school hosted the Los Altos Live Talent Show last night, Saturday April 20, at 7:30 p.m in the Eagle Theatre. The Los Altos Cultural Association and the Los Altos Town Crier sponsored the event to benefit the school’s Camp Everytown program. This was the fifth annual talent show, featuring local performers of all ages. The performers ranged from younger than 10 to older than 80 and showcased talents ranging from juggling to tap dancing, singing, playing an instrument, and even jump roping.

Intermixed throughout it all was Assistant Principal Cristy Dawson’s-the show’s “Mistress of Ceremonies-comedic commentary and announcing. After every talented performance, the audience was presented with a little sarcastic comedy from Dawson; she never failed to produce laughing. There was also a talented poodle that, after every couple of acts, would hop up onto the stage to jump through a hula hoop a couple of times. He was an audience favorite although Dawson had a few things to say about it.

“Why does the dog get a dressing room backstage and I get nothing?” Dawson said.

Eunice Hoo, an exchange student from Malaysia, performed an original composition, “Maybe Some Other Time”.

“This is a song I wrote about how sometimes you’ll meet the right person at the wrong time,” Eunice said.

Many of the the performers were little “mini” dancers or instrumentalists under the age of 10. One such performer was young Alyssa Huang, who is not only “brilliant at the piano” but speaks French as well. She demonstrated her talent with the piano through a piece by Frederic Chopin called “Grande Polonaise Brillante”.

“You have such little hands,” Dawson said to Alyssa. “How can those little hands play such beautiful music? Can you transfer some of your talent over to me?”

Although members of the Los Altos community dominated the performances, there were also a few from Students of Los Altos High School including junior Laura Yedra, who sung “I Hope You Dance” written by Mark D. Sanders and Tia Sillers, the LAHS Dance Team, and the LAHS Latino Student Union Dancers and members in the “Sol” jump rope group.

Overall, there was a total of 23 performances throughout two acts, divided by an intermission call after the 12th act. The night ended with a curtain call, when all of the performers came out on stage to celebrate the show’s end.
