On Friday, May 19, and Saturday, May 20, six members of the varsity boys and girls swimming and diving teams attended the California Interscholastic Federation States meet. Of the six members, juniors Gabrielle Anderson, Trevor Labuda and Evan Labuda made especially notable finishes.

Junior Gabrielle Anderson won fourth place in the 100 butterfly and took fifteenth place in the 100 backstroke after placing second in the butterfly and sixth in the backstroke at CCS.

“Compared to CCS, my mindset for states was more focused on just having fun and racing instead of getting a best time,” Gabrielle said. “At CCS, I was more stressed because I wanted to qualify for states, so once I got to states I was just very excited to race and enjoy my last high school swim meet of this year.”

Juniors Trevor and Evan Labuda respectively took fourth and fifth place in boys one meter diving after claiming second and first respectively at CCS.

“The experience was great,” Evan said. “I got to see many friends that live in Southern California, and I had a really good meet. It was nice to get fifth place this year after getting tenth last year.”

Overall, Los Altos placed 28th in the state for swimming and diving out of 84 teams. Sophomore Danielle Carter claimed eleventh place in the 100 backstroke. In addition, Danielle, freshman Alesia Piercy, Gabrielle, and senior Anne Piercy placed twenty-fifth in the 200 medley relay.
