Athletic Department Chair Linda Sommer retired at the end of the 2008-2009 school year and has left the school to travel and spend time with her family.

“She fulfilled all of her years of teaching,” Athletic Director Kim Cave said. “Now she is traveling all over and visiting family.”

According to Cave, Sommer had been teaching at the school for decades and was “teaching kids of kids”.

PE teacher John Payne will be replacing Sommer as the head of the Athletic Department. The school has also hired a new PE teacher, Kiernan Raffo, who formerly taught and coached at Lynbrook High School.

Sommer was also the JV badminton coach. According to Cave, Sommer might return to the school in the spring to continue coaching the badminton team.
“She loved teaching,” Cave said. “She loved what she was doing.”
