Swim Coach Qualifies for Olympic Trials
Swim and water polo coach Peter Davis qualified for U.S. Olympic Trials the weekend of April 12-13 at the Stanford Grand Prix. Davis qualified in the 100 backstroke and the 100 fly. The U.S. Olympic Trial standards are by far the most difficult in the world, faster than the Olympics themselves. Time standards for U.S. Olympic Trials automatically make a swimmer who meets them a world-class swimmer and a real asset to make the U.S. Olympic Team.

While other finalists paraded to the starting blocks wearing their robes from their respective countries such as Brazil or colleges such as USC, UC Berkeley and Stanford, Davis paraded to the final in his LAHS robe.

Dance Team Holds Tryouts
The dance team tryouts were held during the week of April 7, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. According to dance team captain senior Sophie Tahran, the team now has 13 dancers. This past year, it started off with 20, which ended up being a lot for one team. For these most recent tryouts, they were aiming for somewhere around 15.

“We look at a variety of criteria, including how much potential they show, how dedicated they are to the team, attitude, being cohesive with the rest of the team, and proficiency in basic jazz techniques as well as hip-hop style,” Sophie said. “Members cannot have other commitments that interfere with their ability to attend practice regularly or perform.”

On the day of final tryouts, the girls performed the dances in groups of two or three in front of the judges, demonstrated technique and answered interview questions.

MVHS-LAHS Golf Tournament
The annual MVHS-LAHS Golf Tournament was held on Saturday, April 26, at Shoreline Golf Links.

“This is the only fundraiser we do with Mountain View High School,” PTSA parent Carol Sangster said. It is nice to have an event that both schools can participate in together.”

According to Sangster, the money raised for Grad Nite allows for a deposit to be put on the venue for next year and any money left over can go towards Grad Nite.
