Open Pool Available to Pre-Season Swimmers
Greg Ely, assistant JB girls swim coach, is holding open swim after school for swim team members who wish to swim before the official swim season begins. With college applications and many other requirements hanging over their heads, many swimmers can’t make it up to their private club practices everyday.

The pool will be open after sixth period, Monday through Friday, until about 5 p.m. However, when the pool was checked up on about two weeks ago, it was noted that the water heater was leaking some kind of natural gas and was immediately turned off. A part has been ordered to fix it, and it is hoped that the pool will now be open some point in January, still in time for pre-season practices.

Girls Basketball Team Hopes for More Wins
This year, girls varsity basketball has a goal: win. Last year’s season was plagued with minor injuries throughout the year, and the team didn’t have some of the skilled players they really needed to make an impact in the league.

This year, juniors Anna Schneider and Paige Logan, along with senior twins Angela and Vicky Tran, are some of the key leaders on the team. Vicky and Angela have been playing basketball for many years and joined the team this year. The team is looking to improve its record this year.

Home Cross Country Meet Being Planned
A cross country meet is already in the planning stages for next year. The idea, proposed by the runners, is to host a meet at the school, winding around the track, through the back field and possibly around the neighborhood, no more than 2.1 miles long. It would showcase all the hard work they do during their practices that most students never get to see since all previous meets have been held at other schools and venues.

The meet should be held in October 2008, and currently negotiations and talks between Principal Wynne Satterwhite and the league are under way.
