Sprint for Sports:
On October 12, the Athletic Department hosted its second annual Sprint for Sports fundraiser from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on the football field.

Fall sport team members ran for donors who pledged a certain amount for each lap completed. There were refreshments provided by ASB and a water balloon toss at coaches, among other activities.

The fundraiser raises money for the athletics program.

“We continue to experience a shortfall of money within our sports program,” Principal Wynne Satterwhite said. “Our goal has been to establish a fund that will support our Athletic Department in terms of tournaments as well as our athletic trainer.”

A combined total of about $22,000 was raised last year from the two Sprint for Sports events held by the school. A similar amount is hoped for this year.

“It’s very important that we all support this so we can continue to compete outside of our league games and support the hours that our Athletic Trainer is here for all of our sports programs,”Athletic Director Kim Cave said.

A second Sprint for Sports fundraiser is expected to be held on March 1.

Pumpkin Patch:
The annual Athletic Boosters Pumpkin Patch began on October 12 and will continue until October 31 in the far left corner of the student parking lot.

“We try to do things that are good for the community,” Athletic Director Kim Cave said. “It’s good for the kids to come out and get to pick their pumpkins.”

The goal is to sell out all the pumpkins and to raise several thousand dollars from the event. The money raised will be used to support all of the school’s athletic teams’ uniforms, equipment and other expenditures.

“We’re encouraging people to come out and help support athletics,” Cave said.

In addition to pumpkins, this year there will be a spooky tunnel walk and a haunted graveyard.
