Softball Continues to Dominate with Wins Over Saratoga, Mountain View

On Wednesday, April 16, the softball team edged out league rival Saratoga 6-5 in a game that saw Los Altos rebound from a 4-5 deficit.

In the first five innings, Saratoga eked out a 5-4 lead over the Eagles. However, near the end of the sixth inning, Los Altos managed to tie the game when one of team’s players received a walk that allowed sophomore Janelle McAfee to score. The game winning hit was made by senior Jasmine Pedroza, whose shot drove into the middle of the field and made it possible for a runner to score.

Despite battling with player injuries, Los Altos is leading the De Anza League with a 5-1 record while Saratoga trails 4-2 in second place. This triumph over Saratoga marks the avenging of the Eagles’ loss to the Falcons when the two teams last played on March 19. In that match, Los Altos led 8-5 at one point until Saratoga scored four consecutive points to win 9-8.

The team’s success has led to high expectations and goals.

“The goal is to win the De Anza league and win CCS which has eluded us the past two years,” head coach Tom Barrera said.

On top of the team goals, Barrera has also set expectations for future players on the softball team.

“Our coaching goals are to develop our younger athletes, [so as] to enable Los Altos [to continue] to be competitive over the next several years” said Barrera.

Los Altos continued their winning streak the next day by crushing rival Mountain View 8-1 in a non-league match.

The Eagles’ next game is at home versus Los Gatos on Wednesday, April 23.
