Softball Beats Mountain View 6-1

Varsity softball beat rival Mountain View High School 6-1 on Thursday, April 19.

The team started off strong, hitting nearly every first pitch and bringing two runs in right off the bat. With the help of sophomore Natalie Hollenbaugh and her triple, the girls advanced two more runners home.

By the seventh inning, the team was up 4-1. Pitcher senior Ali Goldberg hit a single while courtesy runner, junior Lexus Julien, ran for her. Lexus stole second but came off the base and was nearly tagged out. She later ran home safely in a play that became a key moment in the game when the tides turned in favor of the Eagles.

There were a couple incidents that involved disputes and minor injuries, but despite all that, the team still obtain a win.

“We didn’t want to take our 13 game winning streak to our heads, so we came out and gave them the respect they deserved,” junior Nikki Klepper said. “But we were able to contribute more hits and consistently more strong defense than them.”

Their record is 17-4 overall and 6-0 in leagues.

“For [the] next game, we just hope that we can stay consistent with our hitting and keep up the strong defense,” Nikki said. “We have [a] limited amount of players so we are so thankful that everyone is staying healthy and out of injuries so far.”

Their next game is against Saratoga on Tuesday, April 24.
