Softball Beats Mountain View 3-1

Softball beat out rival Mountain View 3-1 today, April 2.

The first score of the game came in the third inning after senior Ali Goldberg hit a triple to drive in the first run of the game. Mountain View was able to come back and tie the game 1-1 in the fourth inning. However, the Eagles’ batting picked up in the fifth, and the Eagles scored twice to seal the win. The rest of the game was marked with numerous strike-outs and quickly caught pop flies, and the day ended with a victory for the Eagles.

“We just really wanted to win,” Ali said. “We kept pushing, took advantage of their mistakes and kept a tight defense.”

Though the Eagles won, there were a couple of fluke mishaps in the sixth inning that allowed Mountain View to get runners on base.

“Overall, we need to make sure to stay consistent throughout,” Head Coach Tom Barrera said. “We need to be at a particular level of play and try to stay at that level.”

Sustaining intensity of play is not the only area that the Lady Eagles are working on. Senior Lindsay Axelrod has identified details and mechanics about batting and fielding as areas where the team can also improve.

However, this is not say that the Eagles are not without their strengths.

“They play well as a team,” Barrera said. “They’re supporting each other really well, and that’s the main key when you’re out there. You got to give it your all, and everyone has to do their part.”

Lindsay agrees that team effort and support improves their game.

“When we work together, try hard and have spirit, it really helps us,” Lindsay said.

Currently, the team is 9-4 overall and 4-0 in Leagues. A few Lady Eagles have expressed their hopes in not only making it to the CCS tournament, but also progressing further than their one game last year. Barrera remains cautiously optimistic about the team’s prospects.

“If we can continue to improve and play better defense and play at a consistent level, then good things will happen, if they put the time and effort into it,” Barrera said.
