Senior qualifies for state in cross country

Senior Erin Hicks placed second in her Division 2 race (the 5k run) in CCS on Saturday, November 14, qualifying for Cross Country State Championships.

Erin finished in 18 minutes and 18 seconds, beating her personal record by 12 seconds.

According to Erin, she was in first place for the first two miles until sophomore Allison Sturges from Mountain View High School passed her in the last half mile.

“It was still a good race, though,” Erin said. “I think the rest of the team also had good races and everyone was close to their [personal records].”

This is the first time Erin has qualified for State Championships for Cross Country. Last year, she missed it by one spot—only a couple seconds.

“I’m really glad I made it,” Erin said. “I’m definitely nervous and kind of sad that nobody else made it because I’m actually going to be training basically by myself. But other than that I’m definitely looking forward to it. …There’s going to be tons of really fast people there. So it’ll be fun.”

State Championships are to take place on Saturday, November 28 at Woodward Park in Fresno.
