Senior Places as Finalist in Prestigious Writing Competition

Senior Libbie Katsev is one of the 150 finalists nationwide in the YoungArts Visual, Literary and Performing Arts Competition.

“I found out I was a finalist earlier this week on Tuesday,” Libbie said. “I actually got the call when I was at school … I was so excited that I had a hard time focusing on anything else. I’ve kind of been in shock for the last few days.”

Libbie found out about the competition last year from English Department teacher and coordinator Keren Robertson. She submitted pieces from the AP Language Tapestry Project.

“One was about my dad’s family, another was about California and gravity, and the third was about winter and a Jewish folktale,” Libbie said.

Libbie, along with the other finalists, will be in Miami for a week in January next year, where she will attend classes, workshops, performances and exhibitions. In addition, finalists are eligible to receive awards ranging from $1,000 to $10,000. The final results of the competition will be revealed soon after.
