YEAH Club to Hold Second Blood Drive

The Youth Engaged in Advancing Health (YEAH) Club will be hosting a second blood drive on Friday, May 3. This marks YEAH Club’s second blood drive of this school year, as the YEAH Club held a previous blood drive this past October. The blood drive will take place in the large gym.

In order to participate, students must weigh at least 110 pounds. In addition, a photo ID as well as a parental consent form for students under 16, are also required for prospective donors.

The normal donation consists of one pint of blood, but some students also have the option to donate from separate machines, which essentially collect two units of red blood cells, while returning blood plasma and platelets to the donor. In order to be eligible to donate double red blood cells, the donor must be 17 or over. Female donors must be at least 5’5 and weigh 150 pounds, while male donors must be at least 5’1 and weigh 130 pounds.

The process of donating blood takes around 15 minutes. Students can make appointments can be made by contacting YEAH Club President Shilpa Venigandla or any other club member.
