School Hosts Multiple Holiday Drives

Several charity drives are taking place at the school this winter, with the first one held in November and several more to follow through January.

Ronald McDonald Toy Drive
This year, E3 Youth Philanthropy is holding a toy drive for children who stay at the Ronald McDonald house.
“Since there are many families that refuge at the Ronald McDonald house, there aren’t enough toys for every kid,” board member junior Bryan Cassella said.
The drive started on Monday, November 24, and will end this Friday.

One Warm Coat Drive
Christian Club is holding a coat drive from Monday, December 8, to Friday, January 23. Boxes will be near the library, the band room, room 721 and the Attendance Office. The coats collected will be donated to the Alliance for Community Care and the City Team of San Jose.
Food Drive
ASB held the Thanksgiving Food Drive from Wednesday, November 12, to Wednesday, November 26. They accepted canned vegetables, canned fruit, rice, flour and any other type of non-perishable food. A total of 12,712 pounds was collected and given to Second Harvest Food Bank.
History teacher Robert Freeman’s second period placed 1st in the schoolwide competition to raise the most food, bringing in a total of 2,373 pounds.

One Dollar For Life
In January of 2009, the One Dollar For Life (ODFL) club’s sixth drive will take place. For a week, a small box will be placed in classrooms for students to donate money. This year, ODFL plans to build a school in a rural farm community, although the country has not yet been chosen.
The drive will take place from the end of Winter Break until Tuesday, January 20.
