School holds annual Winter Sports Assembly

The Winter Sports Assembly took place in the large gym from 11:40 p.m. to 12:10 p.m. today, Friday, January 15.

The cheer team opened up the assembly with a routine. Athletic Director Kim Cave followed, introducing the school’s 6th Man Club.

Captains from the girls and boys soccer, wrestling and basketball teams talked about upcoming games, their coaches and summarized how the season has been so far.

Additionally, clubs including Model UN, Interact, Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), Mock Trial and Random Acts of Kindness also discussed upcoming events, competitions, conferences and projects that they will be participating in.

Science teacher Karen Davis was the recipient of the Tireless Teacher Award for the second quarter. She was recognized for the time she has contributed to serving as the Robotics Team co-advisor, and for her work as a Senior Class advisor as well.

In the second half of the assembly, the dance team performed its routine before the final event of the assembly: the sleeping bag race.

“I liked the dancing [most],” freshman Irie McLean said. “It was fun.”

The first sleeping bag race was between the freshmen and the sophomores. The freshmen beat the sophomores in the first race and subsequently went on to compete against the juniors.

As the juniors won the second race, the last competition was between the juniors and seniors. The seniors ultimately won the competition, concluding the assembly.

“[The assembly] was okay,” senior Faye Cheng said. “The race was fun, and the cheerleaders were awesome, and the dance team was okay. But overall, I thought it was fine.”
