School computers contract virus

The computers in the library are infected by a virus for the second time in the past two years.

The virus appears when students try to access the library’s online catalog and takes the form of a yellow warning page. Students can navigate away from the warning page. The problem is only with the online catalog.

According to school librarian Dr. Nina Waite, the library computers contracted a virus at the end of the last school year, but it is not clear whether or not it is the same virus.

“When I saw the yellow screen I was like ‘God, no’ but I’ve contacted district offices,” Waite said. “There is a network wizard over there that can take care of it. This is not going to hurt anybody’s homework, email or Facebook. It’s just a real nagging thing.”

Students who need to look up something on the library’s online catalog can ask librarians to do it for them on separate, unaffected computers.

According to senior Heather Hoover, the virus last year was accompanied by other websites.

“Last year some soft porn site kept coming up,” Heather said.

Heather said she thinks the virus may lead to a bigger problem.

“It’s not bothering me yet, but the year has just started,” Heather said. “It always leads to something else.”
