After Intersession received mixed opinions last year, the school administration is modifying the course selection process that will take place at the beginning of next semester.

During Advisory Course Selection from Tuesday, January 15 to Friday, January 18, students will learn about next year’s course options after each of their block class periods. Students will watch informational videos on the first two days and discuss course information with their appropriate subject teachers on the following two days. The course information videos will be posted on the Los Altos school website as well for students to review.

Unlike Intersession, this year’s Advisory Course Selection schedule also includes allotted time for students to speak with their counselors about their choices. Throughout the four days of Advisory Course Selection, counselors will be available during designated time slots before and after school or during students’ free periods. As of publication, there will also be drop-in times for each grade level during Tutorial in the weeks following Advisory Course Selection, but counselors may announce additional drop-in dates in the future. Final class choices will be due one month later on Friday, February 15.

Course selection will take place after a four-day week in which all students will participate in Challenge Day activities. All students are automatically enrolled in Challenge Day activities unless they complete the opt-out forms. Freshman will participate in the full Challenge Day on Wednesday, January 9 and Thursday, January 10. The sophomores, juniors, and seniors will participate in a shorter Challenge Day assembly on Friday, January 11. All special January schedules are available on the Los Altos school website.
