Robotics Team Participates in Regional Competition

The robotics team attended the Silicon Valley Regional Robotics Tournament (SVR) on Friday, April 1 to Sunday, April 3. It received 14th place.

Sixty schools each submitted a robot that fit specific guidelines. LAHS was not able to advance beyond the preliminary rounds, as only the top eight teams, along with two specially chosen teams, advanced to the finals.

The two specially chosen teams were selected by the top eight teams, who were able to choose teams to form an alliance with. The top eight teams generally chose other teams who were strong in an area they might be weak in.

For this competition, teams were required to design a robot that was able to deploy a smaller robot in the last 15 seconds of the competition. This smaller robot then had to climb a vertical steel pole.

The team prepared for the tournament by working Monday through Friday from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. On weekends, the team worked from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. or later.

“I think we did really well compared to previous years, especially our first regional,” senior Anthony Biondi said.

While the robot built for SVR will also be used in next year’s Cal Games, the season is over for this year.
