Poetry SLAM Showcases Student Talent
The school’s eighth annual Poetry SLAM was held yesterday evening in the Eagle Theatre. 23 students competed for two $150 prizes. Junior Jinjoo Lee received the “Best Poem” award and senior Elior Ilishah received the “Best Performance” award.
The original student poems had to be around three minutes long and there were no limitations placed on language or subject; props, however, were not allowed.
Bracketing the series of student performances were two teacher presentations by English teachers Ryan Ikeda and Jonathan Kwan. A panel of five judges, including Ikeda and some school alumni, selected the winners, honorable mentions and special awards.
