The Carbon Free Committee is working with the LAHS Green Team at school to introduce the Carbon Free Commute Challenge, which encourages teens to ride their bikes and find alternative sources to get to school.

The challenge has already been implemented at MVHS, where it raised the number of daily student bikers from 110 students to 220. The Green Team contacted Scott Chan, a parent involved with the program at MVHS, in the spring to make fall plans.

In order to encourage that change in culture, different “games” are held every second Thursday of the month at MVHS. Candies are handed out and prizes such as iTunes gift cards can be won at these events. LAHS is hoping to adopt similar events in order to make bike riding more popular.
