Dance Troupe to Perform with LSU
The Mexican holiday Cinco de Mayo will be celebrated with a Latin dance festival in the Eagle Theatre from 7 to 8 p.m. Tickets are five dollars and are sold at the door. The dance festival will include the more modern Salsa dancing performed by select Latin Student Union (LSU) members, along with another dancing act.

According to Cinco de Mayo celebrations coordinator and counselor Perla Pasallo, LSU is sponsoring the professional dance troupe Los Lupeños to perform at the festival in order to “bring back the traditional cultural feel that Cinco de Mayo signifies.”

Los Lupeños, based at the Mexican Heritage Plaza in San Jose, specializes in traditional Mexican dances and its goal is to promote awareness, appreciation and understanding of the Mexican culture through its dances. According to Pasallo, LSU found the group through former school teacher Carmen Gomez, who used to dance with Los Lupeños.

Senior Awards Divided into Two Ceremonies
This year’s Senior Awards Evening will only present community awards, which are given by organizations outside of the school. The school will give departmental awards for seniors at Student Recognition Night with all other grade levels. In the past, Senior Awards Evening has featured both departmental awards and community awards. The school hopes to shorten the usually three-hour long ceremony. Assistant Principal Ralph Cave’s secretary LeeAnn Norkoski estimates that the ceremony will take between an hour and an hour and a half.

Student Recognition Night will be at 7 p.m. in the large gym on May 15, while Senior Awards Evening will take place at 7 p.m. in the Eagle Theatre on May 22.
