MVLA Foundation Gives District $1 Million Grant

The MVLA High School District has received a $1 million grant from the MVLA High School Foundation in order to bolster funds to improve academic programs at the school.

The grant was presented to District Superintendent Barry Groves by MVLA Executive Director Laura Roberts and MVLA Board President Cindy Whalen. Groves expressed his appreciation for the foundation’s work during the ceremonial presentation.

“When I ask graduating seniors what they have appreciated most about their experiences, time and again they say they have benefitted from the academic rigor and support because they feel prepared for their future,” Groves said. “This is attributable in large part to the many programs funded by MVLA High School Foundation.”

The grant includes several outlets which will significantly improve the academic infrastructure at the school, specifically with large money allocations to improvements in class-sizes ($360 thousand) and tutorial centers ($170 thousand) at both Mountain View High School (MVHS) and LAHS. Money will also be designated to extending school library hours as well as aiding some classroom textbook needs.

Some of the money from the grant will also be allocated towards improvements in the current online student facilities, such as helping maintaining an upkeep of the SIS and Naviance systems to help students with gradebook access and college planning, respectively.
