A six-year-old homicide case has recently been solved and resulted in the arrest of three suspects: a father, a son and another man.
The victim, Alejandro “Alex” Fernandez, who was 17 at the time, was a former student at LAHS. In 2004, Alejandro was riding his bike on Rengstorff Avenue in Mountain View when he was shot and killed.
According to an article published in The Talon in 2004, the Mountain View Police Department believed that the shooting could have been related to gangs. Santa Clara County Deputy District Attorney Frank Carrubba told the Mercury News that he believed the motive behind the shooting was gang affiliation. The men are now being prosecuted by Carrubba.
The FBI’s Santa Clara County Violent Gang Task Force, which is made up of members of the Mountain View Police Department and the FBI, solved the case.
