Midnight Bites: The Best Late Night Snack Spots

It’s 11:30 on a Saturday night, and you’re still out with all you friends looking for a place to find a quality late-night meal. The question is where can you go when you want something in the wee hours of the night? Since almost everything in downtown Los Altos closes around 5 p.m., with the exception of a few non-teenage friendly restaurants, it’s often hard to find a good place to eat late at night. However, Mountain View and Palo Alto have some options that are open late. What’s more is that these restaurants aren’t just the typical fast food places that serve burgers 24 hours a day. These restaurants are the perfect places to find a quality late-night pick-me-up.

Pho Hoa
Pho Hoa, located on Castro Street in downtown Mountain View, is a chain Vietnamese restaurant that is famous for its noodle soup. Pho Hoa boasts noodle soups that are naturally flavored and low in calories. Each soup comes with a choice of meat, such as brisket, flank or round eye steak, and is served with the typical plate of sprouts, lemons, basil leaves and pepper to provide natural flavoring.

Although Pho Hoa is known for its noodle soup, it also offers several other eating options. Vermicelli bowls, which contain some type of meat, noodles and vegetables, are also popular. Rice plates, stews and other types of meals are also offered.

Pho Hoa promises a healthy yet delicious meal and is open until 2 a.m. Monday through Saturday and until 12 a.m. on Sunday.

Neto Caffe & Bakery
Also located on Castro Street, Neto Caffe & Bakery is another good option for a late night snack or meal. Neto features Mediterranean food, ranging from pizza and sandwiches to chocolate fondue. Neto offers authentic European cuisine including focaccia, paninis, burekas, falafel and Mediterranean salads.

At the same time, Neto’s bakery provides the options of pastries, cheesecake and other desserts, all recommended with their famous Italian coffee.

If you’re looking for a more European-inspired meal, Neto is the perfect place. Neto is open until 12 a.m. Sunday through Thursday, and until 1 a.m. on Friday and Saturday.

Pizza My Heart
Downtown Palo Alto offers the late-night option of Pizza My Heart, located on University Avenue. One of the 14 different locations, the Palo Alto Pizza My Heart serves the pizza that makes the chain so popular. While several different selections of pizza are available on the menu, customers also have the option of choosing their own toppings.

Pizza isn’t the only feature of this restaurant; appetizers such as bread sticks, buffalo wings and salads are also offered. Pizza My Heart also serves specialty meat and vegetarian options.

Pizza My Heart is a perfect late-night meal option; pizza and other food can be delivered, picked up or enjoyed at the restaurant itself. Pizza My Heart is open until 12 a.m. every night.

Verde Tea & Espresso Bar
Verde Tea & Espresso Bar, located on Villa Street in Mountain View, is a Taiwanese tea house that also stays open fairly late. Similar to Tapioca Express, Verde features what are commonly known as bubble teas, or teas with tapioca pudding balls. Many of the teas are also mixed with milk, giving them the name of pearl milk teas.

Although Verde is known for their pearl teas, there is a small selection of food as well. Verde serves some deli sandwiches and has a small selection of other foods, such as different toasts with toppings.

Verde is open until 10:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 9:30 p.m. on Sunday.
