Marching Band Plays for Elementary School Students
The marching band walked to Almond Elementary School and played for the students before school this morning, October 3. The band hoped to inspire students to become interested in music and in being in a marching band.
“We walked to Almond today because it was Walk-to-School Day for Almond,” drum major Megan Stuart said. “We have done this for years and it is always a good way to introduce and promote marching band.”
At around 8 a.m. the band arrived at Almond. The elementary school students were told to sit down in front of the band and watched as the band played warm-up pieces, followed by show music. Band members answered questions from the students about marching band afterward.
“We played our show for them in arcs and they seemed quite jazzed about the music,” Megan said. “The performance went well, and I believe the elementary students truly enjoyed it. I mean, who doesn’t enjoy a live performance.”
The band has also been preparing for its next show this Saturday at Mountain View High School, and its competition on October 13 at Diablo Valley College in Concord.
“I think we have set ourselves up really well for the upcoming season,” section leader Stephen Song said. “Although teaching the new members was difficult, everyone learned the content really quickly, and we will be able to present the whole field show this Saturday at MVHS.”
The band looks forward to good chances at winning awards in their division this year.
