Latino Awards Ceremony Held At MVHS

Over 400 people filled the Spartan Theater at Mountain View High School (MVHS) today, April 4, where the Mountain View-Los Altos Union High School district held an awards ceremony to recognize the academic achievements of Latino students in the district. This is the fourth year that the district has held the ceremony.

Superintendent Dr. Barry Groves, Associate Superintendent Brigitte Sarraf, MVHS Principal Keith Moody and LAHS Principal Wynne Satterwhite presented awards to the students.

Senior Heidi Hernandez received several awards, including the Principal’s Award.

“I feel very accomplished, but I couldn’t have done it without my parents, my teachers, or the support of everyone around me,” Heidi said.

Guest speakers attended the ceremony to share their personal experiences as Latinos in the community. Speakers included former MVHS student and recent Santa Clara University graduate Jose Arreola, Mountain View Police Department Officer Marco Garcia and MVHS senior Nathalie Moutal.

Attendees also watched a dance by the Los Altos Latino Student Union, a singing performance by a MVHS choral group and a surprise Bolivian dance.
