Lacrosse Beats Leland 12-2

After a strong start and continued momentum throughout the game, the varsity lacrosse team dealt Leland High School a devastating defeat 12-2 today, March 29. The game was marked by consistently successful face-offs, ground ball domination, and several intercepted passes.

“A shout-out to our face-off guys: [seniors] Matt Manning, Todd Grimm and Niko Rose,” head coach Greg Mengis said. “They all did very well, and we won most of our face-offs.”

High scoring players included freshman AJ Gurales and senior Matt Manning, who scored three. Junior Devan Tormey also played well as a long-stick midfielder, scooping up many ground balls and helping the team win face-offs, in addition to playing solidly on defense. Sophomore Casey Hanni and senior Dominick Montelaro both had strong defensive efforts, helping to shut down Leland advances.

“Our team is more disciplined than we’ve been in the past,” Mengis said. “The team chemistry has definitely helped us to do well in our games.”

The team looks forward to working together towards a possible league championship this season.

“We need to be more aggressive, learning to be able to execute,” Mengis said. “Especially for our younger players who don’t get to play much, being able to execute our plays when they do get a chance to play.”
