Instrumental Music Department Holds Winter Concerts This Week

The instrumental music department will hold winter concerts on three different days this week. On Wednesday, December 12, the orchestras will perform from 7 to 9 p.m. Concert Band, Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble will perform on Thursday, December 13 from 7 to 9 p.m. Jazz Ensemble will present its Winter Jazz Concert on Friday, December 14 from 7 to 9 p.m. All performances will take place in the Eagle Theater. Tickets cost $8 and can be purchased from students in the instrumental music department.

The two school orchestras will perform on Wednesday, the first night of the concerts. The set will include “Sleigh Ride,” a holiday song.

“Chamber [orchestra] is one of those things you do that makes your day and makes your heart smile,” sophomore Hila Novat said. “Our winter concert this year will be really exciting and will make your day too. Please come check it out.”

The school’s Concert Band, Symphonic Band, and Wind Ensemble will take the stage on Thursday.

“Symphonic Band has worked very hard to prepare the 2012 winter concert repertoire,” sophomore Vishnu Bachani said. “I think it will be a great success.”

Jazz Ensemble will finish off the winter concerts on Friday. They will be performing holiday songs.

“We’ve been working on our set list for a while now,” junior Anna Poltrack said. “It’s a great mash of jazz standards, a few more recent pieces, and some fun takes on Christmas classics.”
