Girls Water Polo Falls to Gunn

The varsity girls water polo team fell to Gunn 13-4 at home today, October 15. While the score may suggest poor performance, varsity head coach Seth Tasman believes the outing was a strong performance by the team.

“The girls fought the entire game, never giving up,” Tasman said. “It was one of the best looking our offense has been the entire season. We just need to keep up the hard work.”

The scoring for the Lady Eagles was evenly distributed, with junior Ya’el Weiner and seniors Kimberlyn Tilley, Jenna Gavenman and Casey Vanneman each netting one. Despite a strong performance from these senior players, the team as a whole faltered in converting multiple opportunities.

“We played better than last time [against Gunn], we just let too many counter attacks go,” Gavenman said. “We had good looks at the goal we just missed shots we could have made.”

The JV girls water polo team lost 10-4, but Tasman believes that much like the varsity game, Tuesday’s match represented an improvement over their earlier matchup.

“The JV girls are making great progress this season. They are learning a lot from [JV head coach] Katie Buzzetta and they play hard every game,” Tasman said.

The Lady Eagles’ next game is this Thursday, October 17, against Homestead at home. The varsity team plays at 3:30 p.m., JV at 4:30 p.m.
