Girls Volleyball Beats Sobrato, Advances in CCS

The girls volleyball dominated Sobrato High School in the first round of CCS today, November 7. The team won the first set 25-12, the second set 25-11 and the third set 25-16 in its last home game of the season.

“We needed to come out strong and really pass well, set well, hit well,” Co-captain junior Hanna Koehler said. “I think all in all we came out every set, and we knew what we had to do and I think we really executed.”

At the beginning of the first set, the team had a long and consistent serving streak that set the group up for success. In the second set the team was able to avoid its mistakes from the first game, playing even better. The third set started off close, with the Eagles tied to Sobrato 5-5 a few minutes in. However, the team regained focus to close out the set 25-16 and take the match.

“We kind of got ahead of ourselves, and thought the match was already over,” Hanna said. “[We thought], ‘We just need one to go, but we still have to finish this one set,’ so we focused and then we pulled away after that.”

The team will now advance in CCS and will face off against Los Gatos High School on Saturday, November 10. The team took down Los Gatos earlier in the season and is looking forward to the game.

“Our main goal was just playing the best game that we could play,” Hanna said. “By that I mean just not playing down to their level, just staying strong, serving tough and passing well, because with serves and passes, you can really do anything.”
