Girls Tennis Falls to Mountain View 5-2

The LAHS girls tennis team took on its school rivals, Mountain View High School (MVHS), today, September 22. The players played toe-to-toe throughout the high-quality match-up between the two neighboring high schools. However, LAHS fell to MVHS 5-2.

The Eagles’ number one player sophomore Kacey Incerpi faced a hard-hitting opponent, so she had to be consistent and keep the ball in play to stay in the point. Despite loud remarks from her opponent’s friends, Kacey took away a victory.

The other big win for the Eagles fell in the hands of junior Amy Wang. Playing consistently, Amy found a way to outplay her opponent. With her steady strokes, Amy took the second win for LAHS. Though she played well, she felt she still had things to improve her game.

“[I need to work on] being more aggressive instead of just trying to get it over the net every time,” Amy said.

The number one doubles senior Ali Dyer and junior Katie Kouvelas played a strong team as well and lost 6-2, 6-1. Because the normal number one singles player for MVHS played as numver one doubles, the pair had trouble controlling their shots, as the ball flew back at a faster pace.

“I feel like we’ve played better, but we didn’t play as awfully as the score makes it seem because we played someone who was quite good,” Ali said. “We definitely had issues … we couldn’t place the ball where we wanted to.”

As the season continues on, the LAHS girls tennis team hopes to keep on improving to place well in their league. Coach Hung Nguyen has faith in the Eagles’ ability to improve.

“We are lacking a little bit of enthusiasm, fighting spirit,” Nguyen said. “I think we played a little under our capability, but I think as the season goes by we will be up to that.”
