Girls Tennis Beats Milpitas 5-2

The varsity girls tennis team defeated Milpitas High School 5-2 today, September 27. The team got off to a rough start, after losing both its number one doubles and its number three singles matches.

“They do have two or three really strong members,” varsity head coach Hung Nguyen said. “But we have more depth.”

Those strong members from Milpitas came out strong in the number one doubles position today. The Eagles’ number one doubles team, composed of sophomore Katie Limbach and senior Amy Wang, lost 6-1 in the first set and 6-3 in the second set. Number three singles player Lili Kobayashi also lost her match.

However, the team demonstrated its depth by winning all five of the other matches handedly, ultimately overpowering Milpitas. The team seems to have recovered from its loss against Mountain View last Tuesday, September 18.

“We lost to Mountain View in a tight match last week,” Nguyen said. “Ever since that match they came together and have strived to play more focused.”

The team has shown its improvement in focus with its decisive win today. The team is still in a good position to make CCS this year.

The team’s next game takes place next Tuesday, October 2, against Lynbrook High School.
