Girls Soccer Meets Match with Gunn

The varsity girls soccer team came away with a 1-1 tie against Gunn High School in a game where both teams displayed defensive dominance.

The Gunn Titans came out aggressive as they put up a quick tally on the score board against the seemingly slow LAHS defense. The shot, a nicely angled kick that caught the Eagles’ goalie off guard, came just within minutes of the start of the game and sunk LAHS into a hole that would take nearly the entire contest to even out.

But the Eagles, who allowed Gunn to control the ball offensively for a majority of the first half, stiffened up their defense when it counted. Gunn failed to convert on two beautiful kicks that were stopped by excellent goalie defense.

On the other hand, the Eagles were incapable of finding ways to put the ball through the other side of the net. The goal drought continued into the second half as the Eagles found fewer opportunities to score.

The Eagles finally capitalized on an offensive possession in the final minutes of the second half to salvage a draw, as they scored a goal that fluttered just over the outstretched hand of the goalie and into the back of the net.

“That goal shows what we should’ve been doing from the beginning because we played well the entire game and we just were not lucky in the early stages,” Coach Armando Luna said.

The Eagles play their next game away at Saratoga on Wednesday, January 18 at 3:30 p.m.
