Girls Basketball Crushes Fremont 42-17 in Heart-pumping Game

The girls basketball team played a heart-pumping game against Fremont High School yesterday, January 23, and won 42-17.

During the first two quarters, Fremont kept pace with Los Altos, and both teams were strong defensively. Neither team managed to score many points against each other by halftime, with the Eagles leading by one point, 11-10.

However, the two teams picked up the pace significantly after the halftime break. The varsity team started the third quarter off with senior Tianna Vasquez draining three two-pointers in a row, frequently assisted by senior Ideen Seyed, junior Kelly Hamamoto and freshman Meg Enthoven. Meg scored the last two-pointer of the quarter, and Los Altos dominated 21-12 by the end of the third quarter.

Despite the significant advantage gained by the Eagles during the third quarter, the fourth quarter would prove to be the most exciting quarter in the entire game. Meg made the first two-pointer of the quarter, followed by another by Kelly after a brilliant pass from Tianna. Kelly, freshmen Rachel Glein, Katie Munro and Lauren Lunsford all made two-pointer shots in the last quarter in rapid succession. Many fouls and free throws occurred during the last quarter, with junior Meghan McDermont, Lauren, and Ideen making most of their shots.

This last quarter had a profound impact on the final score, gaining half of the points for the Eagles out of the entire game. Through a display of unfaltering aggression and skill during the second half of the game, the Eagles proved their worthiness of another victory, winning 42-17.
