Giants: Rubric of Game on October 28

Writer Jordan Stout grades the Giants for the team’s performance against the Tigers yesterday, October 28.

Giants

Grade: A

Comments: Not the best pitched game for Matt Cain, although he had enough run support to get an undecided result. The defense came up huge again, especially in Brendan Crawford and Pablo Sandoval with a couple of great plays at shortstop and third base. The hitting was again very productive and simply overpowered the Tigers’ pitching. Relievers Jeremy Affeldt and Sergio Romo were very clutch in the final parts of the game, with Romo striking out the side to close out the game in the 10th.

Detroit

Grade: B+

Comments: The offense was great for the first six innings. But after that the pitching was left with no support and it became obvious that the Giants would eventually strike the final blow. Miguel Cabrera got his home run but nothing else, and Prince Fielder was again a non-factor. The defense did very well with no errors, although Gerald Laird was unable to throw out Hunter Pence stealing second. The pitching was not horrible with Max Scherzer doing well but not great, and the relievers only just lost the game at the end.
