Football Moves Up to De Anza Division

After winning the El Camino Division this past season with a league record of 6-0, the football team will now be competing in the tough De Anza Division next season. In the 2 previous years, the Eagles only lost 1 league game and went a combined 11-1.

The De Anza Divison is a more competitive league that consists of schools such as Wilcox and Milpitas, who the Eagles lost to 20-0 this past season. It also includes Palo Alto, who won a state championship this past season. In the El Camino Division, a team needs to usually win the division to make the playoffs, but the fifth place team in the De Anza Division can make the playoffs if they have enough CCS points. However, against the tougher teams this is no easy task.

“The good aspect of playing in the higher league is the team will be battled-tested if we make the playoffs since we played such a difficult league schedule,” varsity Head Coach Bill Waggoner said.

In order to prepare for this new level, the team is focusing on increasing training this off season. They are excited about the upcoming season and they think they have a chance to do well in the new league.

“We look forward to competing in the De Anza League next season,” Waggoner said. “It will be a great challenge for us as players and coaches but one we will take on with excitement.”
