Football falls in rivalry game, seniors win Powder Puff

The varsity football team lost to rival MVHS Spartans on Friday, November 13. The final score was 19-38 after Mountain View scored on a 15-yard touchdown run with 30.5 seconds left in the game.

Although a non-league match, the Eagles put up a fight against the rival Spartans, who recently moved up to the De Anza Division. Going into the game, the Eagles were additionally at a disadvantage with the absence of their starting left-guard and defensive-end senior Doug Tomlinson, and fullback and linebacker junior Terence Cape. Both were out due to injuries.

The game started, with a touchdown made by Mountain View within the first half of the quarter. It was however, rebutted by the Eagles within a matter of seconds, when senior Roy Abousamra made an 85-yd. touchdown run off a kick return, advancing the Eagles to a 7-6 lead after a successful point after touchdown (PAT).

But the Eagles went into the second quarter down 7-12 and were never able to fully recover. As the game continued, Mountain View’s tough defensive line and runningback made it difficult for the Eagles to ever gain the advantage. Coming into the half, Mountain View led 18-7.
