Field Hockey Ties Leigh High School in Scrimmage
Today, Monday September 9, the varsity field hockey team tied Leigh High School in a scrimmage 0-0. The game was a back and forth battle, going into overtime.
The game was a constant battle. Both teams pushed the ball up and down the field and played good offense, and yet both teams’ rock solid defenses proved to dominate the game.
Los Altos had some early offensive opportunities but they were squandered by good defense and goalkeeping. Defensively, the Eagles were able to contain Leigh counterattacks and prevent them from scoring any goals. The second half ended as in a 0-0 tie, forcing overtime.
“Our defense remained strong throughout the entire game and we made sure to implement different techniques that we have been practicing so far,” junior Nicole Atkins said.
In overtime, the teams played 7 on 7. Due to injuries, overtime had to be stopped. Since the game was only scrimmage, it ended as a tie.
The Eagles look to improve their offense and keep up their good defense as they head into the regular season.
“We just need to make sure we connect our passes near our opponent’s goal so we can score,” Nicole said.
The Eagles look to get their first victory this Wednesday, September 11, at Presentation High School.
