Cross Country Team Runs First SCVAL Meet

The cross country team ran its first SCVAL meet of the season yesterday, September 10, at the Crystal Springs cross country course.  The unpaved 2.95 mile course in Belmont is known for its hilly terrain and its lack of cover, but the runners today were graced with cool weather and a slight headwind. After having just competed at the Earlybird Invitational on Saturday and placing second out of 50 teams, the team had much momentum.

“I know a lot of people who put [on] heroic efforts today… and based off of that [fact] it’s definitely looking like this is going to be a great season for LAHS cross country,” senior Owen Jow said.

Overall, the team performed well. Many of the teams placed within the top three for their categories, while the senior boys led the team with a solid first place finish. Sophomore Ben Zaeske and seniors Dane Tippet, Kevin Glass, Tim Cyron and Riley Soward all contributed to the senior team’s first place finish.

The next race for the team will take place at the Lowell High School invitational on Saturday, September 14 in the Golden Gate Park.
